What is the Study Sex College Tour?

If you’re browsing this site, you’ve probably heard of Megan Andelloux’s speaking tours. Maybe you represent one of the many colleges and universities who want to bring “Oh Megan” to speak on their campuses each year!

“The Study Sex College Tour” was developed out of a need to cultivate future sexuality educators, allow college students to feel like they could explore sexual issues in a fun, educational and respectful way, and promote successful event planning. There are a wide range of topics that college organizations can choose from, all of which focus on creating a safe environment for students to learn more about safer sex practices, consent, reproductive justice, sexual pleasure, and sexual politics.

After years of hearing anti-sex individuals scoff at the idea of adult sex education being important, Oh Megan (Megan Andelloux, ACS, AASECT) founded The Study Sex College Tour in 2010 to show sexuality discussions do not have to be fraught with fear or hazards to hold a valued, healthy place in our society.

How The Study Sex College Tour Works

Simply look through the workshops listed here and pick out what seems interesting to your group, then contact Ms. Andelloux through email or phone. Let her know you are interested in promoting sexual health on your campus and give her the rundown on what you think your particular student body wants to learn (sexual health? pleasure? politics? employment in the field of sexuality?).

Over the weeks leading to her presentation, she’ll communicate with you by phone and video to help perfect the program for your needs. She will either tweak one of the many workshops she has already created to suit your needs, or will be happy to create an entirely new presentation based on what you are looking for, at no extra cost!  When scheduling, have a few dates in mind, and try to make sure you don’t pick a date that is near finals or vacation, as that tends to reduce the crowd. After the date has been set and the contracts have been exchanged, Ms. Andelloux will send you poster designs, promotional t-shirts, and social media links to help advertise the upcoming event.

When the Study Sex College Tour comes to your school, Ms. Andelloux will arrive laden with a dizzying amount of exciting items. Some will be for demonstration purposes (genital models, sexual aids, games, etc.), but many of the surprises filling her suitcase will be giveaways for ALL attendees (condoms, lubes and a yes, yes, wait for it….a vibrator). No worries about forcing unwanted freebies on anyone though; they aren’t mandatory take home items!

The quality of the presentation will usually require the assistance of your school’s AV staff (everyone needs a little help hooking-up internet, projector, sound, and video connections!). Ms. Andelloux will bring her own Mac laptop and with the AV crew’s help, will set everything up for a fantastic presentation. Make sure to advertise that attendees should bring their smart-phones or laptops to the event, because they’ll be using them during one portion of the evening!

During the SSCT presentation, you’ll learn fun facts, gaze at fantastic photos and eye-popping videos, discuss new research in the field of sexual health, gain risk reduction methods that are sexy and safe, and examine many of the items scattered over the table. Occasionally, Ms. Andelloux will ask for volunteers. Those brave and mighty individuals will be generously rewarded at the end of the presentation with special prizes! She strongly believes, as the World Health Organization put it, that sexual pleasure is part of sexual health, and both are basic human rights. Thus, she’s going to provide you with as many tools as possible to experience health in ways that work for your audience. Near the end of the lecture, Ms. Andelloux will block aside time to answer some of the questions submitted anonymously by participants.  

If all goes well, the college community itself will further the dialogue of communicating and demonstrating healthy sexuality.  A few days later, after looking through the rest of the anonymous participant questions, Ms. Andelloux will post video responses to the most pressing and/or interesting queries on YouTube.  Keep an eye on The Report Card results as they funnel in; it’s the Study Sex College Tour’s way of rating how well each campus prepared for and executed their event.  If your organizations(s) did a good job communicating and setting up the program, you may win a huge box of sexual health products as a thank you prize! Last year, the lucky winners were to Tufts University, Vassar College, and Wesleyan University; they truly were just that good at studying sex!
